Police officers jump off bridge to get out of drunk driver’s way

(Scroll down for video) Two police officers are lucky to be alive after a drunk driver drove her vehicle towards them, according to police in Texas.

The Houston Police Department said that 33-year-old Roshad Carter and his partner, Carlos Herrera, were responding to an accident scene when 25-year-old Bianca Bennett, was driving drunk on the Southwest Freeway.

Bennett bypassed a police cruiser that was blocking the road, and drive over the foot of Carter. The vehicle spun out of control and headed towards the officer.

In order to avoid getting hit, Carter and Herrera had no choice but to jump off the overpass of the highway. Carter suffered serious injuries.

He broke his back, and injured his spine, as well as his arms and feet. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Herrera suffered moderate injuries.

He was taken to a hospital, where he treated and released.

Bennett was arrested. She faces numerous charges, including intoxication assault.
