Father sets home on fire while his three children were inside after argument with ex-girlfriend

(Scroll down for video) A mother and her three children are lucky to be alive after the children’s father set their apartment on fire.

22-year-old Velmando J. Williams of Florida, was charged with attempted murder and first-degree arson, false imprisonment and simple domestic battery after being accused of setting the Riviera Beach apartment on fire.

Police were initially called at 5:45 p.m., on Friday, to the 1500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard,on a report of domestic violence.

A short time later, they were called again for a structure fire at the same address.

Neighbors were able to rescue a 3-year-old boy and a 1-year-old boy was thrown out from a window. They were treated at the scene.

Firefighters then removed a 1-month-old baby girl from the home. The infant was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment.

She did not suffer burns, but was she was injured when a door somehow fell on top of her, according to Fire Rescue chief Ken Brock.

An investigation revealed that Williams set the unit on fire intentionally after getting into a dispute with the children’s 19-year-old mother.

The fire destroyed the home and caused damage to six other units in the building.
