(Scroll down for video) A grandfather will not be able to enjoy the water and sun near his home this summer after he was banned from all beaches in Volusia County in Florida.
The elderly man was seen walking on a beach while wearing a provocative shirt, and handing out business cards to good-looking teens and women.
73-year-old Richard G. Basaraba is not a bad man. He does not have a criminal record, but he is a lonely man.
Basaraba, who has children and grandchildren, said that he goes to the beach everyday to meet people and to brighten up his day.
He decided to look for a companion and he did so in a way that has now gotten him into trouble. He wore a shirt with a message stating that he was looking for a “sugar baby.”
He also handed out business cards with his email address and with a list of perks, which he is willing to give the woman, such as a home near the beach and a monthly allowance.
Basaraba was stopped by security after a mother complained that he handed a card to her 16-year-old daughter in an attempt to entice her to come live with him in order to have “good life.”
The mother said that her daughter told her that she was just 16, but Basaraba continued to harass her.
He is accused of pulling out a bra padding and saying that he “was looking for someone who would fill it.”
Basaraba was ordered to stay away from all Volusia County beaches for six months for violating a county ordinance, prohibiting solicitation on the beach.
