A young woman was so fed up with her employer’s nagging mother-in-law that she decided to poison her in order to get rid of her.

24-year-old Mya Thet Wai went from Myanmar to Singapore, for a job as a nanny.

However, she was unhappy with the work environment as the employer’s mother was nagging her too much. Instead of quitting her job, Wai decided to harm the woman.

Prosecutors said that Wai put Dettol disinfectant into a drink that was prepared by 65-year-old Toh Sew Keok, who is her employer’s mother-in-law.

Keok told the court on Monday morning, she made the drink and covered it with a lid before going into another room to feed her granddaughter.

When she returned to the kitchen, she took a sip of the drink and immediately spat it out and washed her mouth.

When Keok asked Wai if she had added anything to the drink, the nanny denied it.

When her employer came home, he reviewed the security cameras and saw the nanny tampering with the drink.

Wai confessed that she put the disinfectant in the drink because she no longer wanted to work in that house.

Wai confessed in court that she knew her actions could hurt the victim. She added that she was desperate to escape the victim’s nagging and she hoped that her employer would send her home over her actions.

After admitting that she made a bad decision, the nanny asked the court for leniency. The judge sentenced her to five months in prison rather than the maximum sentence of up to 10 years.
