Son drowns while spreading dead father’s ashes in lake

(Scroll down for video) Tragedy struck a family days after they lost a loved one, according to police in Michigan.

The Michigan State Police said that 59-year-old Robert Louis from Lake Orion, drowned in the lake while spreading his dead father’s ashes.

Divers from the Alger County Sheriff’s Department found the body of Louis after an extensive search.

According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded near Au Train Island on Sunday afternoon. Louis and six others went out on the lake to spread the ashes of Louis’ father.

Louis’ father died after battling Alzheimer’s. Louis’ father instructed his kids to spread his ashes in Lake Orion.

Louis and six of his family members went on a wooden boat to spread the ashes when it suddenly tipped over, sending everyone into the lake.

Everyone made it back to the boat safely, but Louis disappeared. Police immediately searched for Louis, but he was found deceased.

Witnesses at the scene said that they saw the boat making a sharp turn for an unknown reason.

After everyone made it back onto the boat, they saw Louis trying to get back on, but something hit him and he went underwater.

The six others who fell into the water were treated for hypothermia.
