Pittsburgh police said that they have arrested Marcia Dinardo, 67, and Thomas Crory, 59, after animal control officers removed 41 severely neglected cats from their home.

Both suspects were charged with eight counts of cruelty to animals, one count of criminal conspiracy and 41 counts of animal abuse.

A judge ordered the couple to undergo a mental health evaluation after Dinardo cried and said that she feels very lonely without her cats.

According to the police investigation, officers became aware of the animal neglect after Dinardo called 911 to complain about an assault.

Police officers who arrived at the scene, noticed red marks on Dinardo’s face.

Dinardo claimed that she was assaulted by Crory, following an argument.

Police also noticed numerous cats in the house.

The floor of the home was covered in cat urine and feces.

Animal control officers were called to the scene, and they removed 41 cats that were severely malnourished and infested with fleas.

8 cats had to be euthanized by the Humane Animal Rescue.

Officers also found at least 50 dead cats that were thrown in garbage bags, coffee cans and containers.
