A house guest called police after finding the host dead in his bed.

The house guest told police that he heard 57-year-old Neil Rodney Smith of Brooklyn, New York, having sex with a man before he found him dead.

Police began investigating the suspicious death after surveillance video from outside his home, showed a man arriving at Smith's home with a woman.

The man went inside the home at 1:30 a.m., but the woman waited for him outside.

During that time, there was a charge on Smith's credit card, which led police to believe that he was paying for the man for the sexual encounter.

Police found text messages and Facebook messages between Smith and a man regarding hooking up with each other.

The man stayed in the home for about 50 minutes, and the house guest told police that he heard the two having sex.

The house guest, who was visiting from Bogota, Colombia, found Smith naked with a pillow over his head and a wet towel had been wrapped around his face the next day.

Police were trying to determine whether it was a bondage game gone wrong or if he was killed intentionally.

The medical examiner's office declared the death to be a homicide by asphyxiation. So far, no arrests have been made.

Smith was the founder and CEO of Infraccess, a data and analytics infrastructure company.
