(Scroll down for video) A married man told police that he had no choice but to murder his wife’s pastor because he was controlling her spiritually, according to police in Maryland.

The Baltimore County Police said that the suspect from Saturday’s fatal stabbing has been identified as Daniel Patrick Degoto, 41, from Kelly Court.

Degoto has been charged with first-degree murder, and is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

He is being held without bail.

According to the police investigation, the stabbing occurred in the 7800 block of Liberty Road.

The victim was pronounced deceased just after 4:00 p.m. at a hospital.

The victim has been identified as Raphael M. Happy-Ikenwilo, 53, of the 4300 block of Glenmore Avenue.

Detectives determined that Degoto dropped off his wife in the parking lot of Happy-Ikenwilo’s church.

When Degoto saw the Happy-Ikenwilo getting out of his car, he rammed his car into the victim.

The victim’s wife, who was at the scene, was not injured in the collision.

Degoto then stabbed the victim numerous times.

Degoto drove away from the area and turned himself in to authorities at the Howard County Detention Center.

During questioning, Degoto told police that his wife began going to Happy-Ikenwilo’s church about a year ago.

She then started to change until he realized that the pastor was spiritually controlling her.

Degoto admitted that he planned to kill Happy-Ikenwilo to stop him from controlling his wife.
