A teenager is facing a long prison sentence for setting his mother’s new home on fire.

The 18-year-old boy of Germany, was arrested after police said he burned down his mother’s new house so that they would not have to move from their old home.

Police said that the mother was preparing to move from a home in Brocken, to the new home. The new house is located about a 15-minute drive from the current home.

The teenager, who has not been named, was arrested after police discovered that he poured gasoline inside the home before lighting it.

The blaze triggered an explosion that destroyed 6 apartments and two stores. In total, 65 firefighters from four districts were called to the scene to extinguish the fire.

A 69-year-old woman who lives in one of these homes, was taken to a hospital, where she was treated for smoke inhalation.

Witnesses told police that they saw the teenager leaving the home shortly before it went up in flames.
