(Scroll down for video) A school bus driver kept bottles of alcohol and prescription pills in her purse while taking numerous kids to school, according to police in Georgia.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office said that they have arrested 49-year-old Carole Ann Etheridge, after being accused of driving a school while under the influence of alcohol.

Etheridge has been charged with DUI and 16 counts of child endangerment.

She was booked into the Walton County Jail, and her bail has been set at $25,000.

According to the police investigation, Etheridge has been driving the school bus for the Loganville Middle School.

On Monday morning, Etheridge had 31 students on board when she began to drive erratically.

One student called his mother to report that Etheridge was driving around 70 miles per hour and went into a ditch.

Etheridge also hit a driveway and the bus started to wobble.

Police officers who arrived at the scene, stopped the bus and removed the driver.

Etheridge had a blood alcohol content level of .043, which is higher than the legal limit of .04.

Police found a large bottle of tequila, four small bottles of vodka and prescription pills in her purse.

The Walton County School District fired Etheridge.

Melanie Whitaker, who had children on the school bus, wrote: “Unfortunately, my children were on this bus! She was drunk while driving my children to and from school! I feel sick that my children were put in such danger like this! I actually called the school twice since the beginning of the school year because of her erratic driving. Thank God she was caught and arrested!”

Kim Whitaker wrote: “Carli told me she would go around the curves so fast that it was on two wheels, that when she’d come to a stop, she’d hit the brakes so hard that the kids would all lunge forward and hit their heads on the seat in front of them. How sad it is to be a full out alcoholic like that, but to put kids in danger and everyone on the road, makes her criminal.”
