U.S. Army veteran shot and killed by police after threatening to commit suicide

(Scroll down for video) A U.S. Army veteran was shot and killed during a standoff with SWAT members who tried to stop her from committing suicide, according to police in Florida.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said that Sunrise Police Department officers were sent to the home of 28-year-old Kristen Ambury, after getting a report about her attempting suicide.

The Sunrise Police Department SWAT team responded to the scene on Friday, at around 4:00 p.m.

The officers negotiated with Ambury, until 7:30 p.m.

When she stopped responding, the officers broke into the home to stop her from committing suicide.

Police shot and killed Ambury, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

She was home alone at the time.

The incident unfolded at the Waters Edge Apartments located in the 10000 block of Northwest 40th Street.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances that led to the deadly shooting.

Ambury was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

She was a U.S. Army explosive ordnance specialist, and an emergency medical technician.

She also worked for the American Heart Association and the American Medical Response.

Ambury’s family told police that she had mental health issues for some time.
