A woman who claimed to love animals, caused her own dog to suffer because she wanted attention.

Veterinarians at a private clinic in Scotland, became suspicious and called authorities after one of the workers kept bringing her dog in for treatment.

The vets said that the dog named Florence, seemed to be fine after being treated, and had no medical issues.

However, the owner, 28-year-old Georgina Bretman of Glasgow, repeatedly brought the animal to doctors after it collapsed and had seizures.

The dog was treated for low blood glucose on each occasion. However, the dog seemed to be totally fine between episodes.

Bretman’s employer Lesley Herd of Pet A&E, became suspicious that the dog was being injected with insulin. One day, when Bretman was off from work, she brought the dog in with another episode.

Herd contacted animal protection officers, who arrested the veterinary nurse.

During the trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Bretman, who was described as an attention seeker, denied hurting the animal. She said that all she ever wanted was to find out what was wrong with her dog.

Bretman added that she put a lot of energy into the dog. “She was my companion,” Bretman told the court.

However, she was found guilty of causing the dog, then two years old, unnecessary suffering. She is facing one year in prison or a $25,000 fine.

The dog was taken from Bretman, and it did not have any health problems since.
