A baby is lucky to be alive after his mother buried him moments after birth, according to police in Japan.

Tokyo police said that they have arrested 35-year-old Shiho Komatsu, after burying her son alive near a river.

Komatsu has been charged with one count of attempted murder.

According to the police investigation, Komatsu worked for a shipping company.

On Wednesday morning, Komatsu was at a business, where she went into labor.

She went onto the women’s bathroom and gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

Komatsu managed to get out of the business without being detected.

She drove to a nearby river and buried her son alive.

On Thursday, a neighborhood resident heard a baby crying at the river and went to investigate.

The resident was shocked to find the baby partially buried in the ground.

The resident called for help, and the baby was taken to the hospital, where he is being treated for an infection.

The boy is expected to make a full recovery.

Police reviewed surveillance video of the area and tracked down the mother.

During questioning by police, Komatsu admitted to burying her newborn baby alive, but denied intending to kill him.
