A psychologist in California, is facing life in prison after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting two children.

45-year-old Michael Dane Ward of La Canada-Flintridge, was employed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, where he advised and trained law enforcement officers.

He was fired from his job after his arrest. The crimes were not related to his job, according to prosecutors.

The Los Angeles County prosecutor’s office said in a statement that jurors deliberated for three days before finding Ward guilty of four counts of lewd act on a child, two counts of forcible lewd acts, three counts of oral copulation of a child and one count of sodomy.

The victims, a boy and a girl, were both under 10-years-old at the time. The sexual assaults occurred over a period of 2 years, prosecutors said. Both of the victims were brave enough to testify against Ward during the trial.
