Man rapes 60-year-old woman while walking on Manhattan bridge

A registered sex offender in New York, will spend many years in prison for raping and robbing a woman on the street.

The man pleaded guilty to two counts of predatory sexual assault and one count of second-degree robbery as a sexually motivated felony.

The Manhattan district attorney announced that 29-year-old Randy Rivera, was sentenced to serve between 20 years and life in prison.

According to court records, Rivera ambushed the 60-year-old woman while she was attempting to cross the 207th Street bridge from the Bronx to Manhattan, early in the morning.

Rivera grabbed the woman from behind as she walked to work, covered her face with her hood and dragged her to the side.

He then knocked her to the ground and repeatedly punched her before sexually assaulting her.

Rivera then fled with her purse. The woman was sent to a Harlem Hospital.

DNA recovered from the victim matched that of Rivera. Police had his DNA in the system as he has a past conviction for sexually abusing an 11-year-old child. In that case, he was registered as a highest-risk sex offender.

Due to his repeated crime, he was sentenced to up to life in prison.
