(Scroll down for video) Many people in Florida, were shocked to learn that the gifts they handed over to a school to make Christmas more cheerful for less fortunate kids, were used for another purpose.

The Palm Beach County school district said in a press release that they were tipped off to some inappropriate activities and mishandling of school funds by a school principal.

Their investigation uncovered that Joann Rogers, who is the principal at Grove Park Elementary school, was using Toys for Tots gifts as prizes for students throughout the year.

Rogers claimed that she did not to distribute the Toys for Tots because it was delivered to the school on the last day before the Christmas vacation, and there were not enough toys for every child at the school.

Instead, she handed the toys and gift cards out to students during the year for “academic gains during testing or other achievements,” school officials said.

Officials added that Rogers did not violate any school policy by keeping the toys instead of distributing them for the intended purpose.

However, they admit that she violated the Marines Toys for Tots foundation’s wish that they be given to needy children as Christmas gifts.

She also violated the trust that many people placed in her.
