(Scroll down for video) A judge in Oregon, was shocked to smell marijuana while presiding over a case.

The incident unfolded at the Multnomah County Courthouse in Portland.

The 30-year-old man, who was not identified, was in the courtroom of Judge Cheryl Albrecht, during a hearing about the murder of a 17-year-old boy.

Police said that two murder suspects were sitting in the courtroom when the man lit up a marijuana joint.

A court officer told him to leave immediately, but the smoker could not figure out why.

The man told the police officer that voters legalized smoking marijuana, and he had the right to light up. However, it is not legal to smoke marijuana in public places.

Eventually, the man left the courthouse. Albrecht later said that she smelled a strong odor of marijuana.

She said it was the first time in her 16-year career as a judge that someone smoked marijuana in her courtroom.

An attorney at the scene said that this man was living proof that marijuana makes you stupid.

The smoker has not been charged.
