A couple was arrested after causing panic and lots of damage in a luxury hotel while running wild.

Police in the United Kingdom, were called to the MacDonald Loch Rannoch Hotel in Perthshire, after the couple threatened to harm people.

The elderly couple managed to flee in a BMW before police arrived. Officers eventually located the couple and pulled the two over.

72-year-old Robert Fergus and his wife Ruth, 69, were both found to be intoxicated. They were twice the legal limit for driving and they were arrested.

During the court hearing, prosecutors said that the couple had been drinking a lot at 5:00 p.m., before Robert went to sleep.

His wife woke him up at 1:45 a.m., saying that staff members were bothering her.

Robert went downstairs in the lobby while completely naked. He had scissors in his hand, and threatened staff members and guests. He destroyed hotel property including cutting cables.

Ruth, who was only wearing a nightgown, was threatening to kill people by slashing their throats or shooting them. Ruth picked up a sign and smashed a glass pane in the door.

People ran in panic as the couple wreaked havoc. The couple pleaded guilty to willfully destroying property.

Robert, who does not have a criminal history, was ordered to pay the hotel £800 ($1,000) in compensation. He was also ordered to pay fines of £2,750 ($3,600).

He was banned from driving for a year for driving while intoxicated.

Ruth was ordered to pay £1,350 ($1,700) for the damage she caused at the hotel.
