(Scroll down for video) A husband admitted to killing his wife after taking too much cold medicine, according to police in North Carolina.

Raleigh police said that they have arrested 28-year-old Matthew Phelps, after calling 911 and telling the dispatcher that he stabbed 29-year-old Lauren Hugelmaier.

Phelps has been charged with murder.

He was booked into the Wake County Jail, and he was denied bail.

According to the police, on Friday, at around 1:00 a.m., Phelps called 911 and told the police dispatcher that his wife was lying motionless on the bedroom floor.

Phelps said that there was blood all over and a bloody knife was in the bed he shared with his wife.

He then told the dispatcher that he might have killed his wife.

Phelps claimed that he woke up from a dream and turned on the lights to find his wife stabbed to death.

He also said that he took too much cold medicine before he went to sleep.

Police however, believe that the murder was not a random act.

Police officers who arrived at the home located in the 5200 block of Patuxent Drive, found Lauren with several stab wounds.

She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Bayer, the company that makes Coricidin, released a statement, saying that the cold medication does not make people violent even when consuming large doses.

Phelps worked for a lawn mowing company and studied to become a pastor.
