A good man was shocked to get attacked by a shoplifter after he offered to pay for the stolen items, according to police in California.

West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station personnel are investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault with a deadly weapon call, which occurred in the 7900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, at approximately 4:05 a.m., on Sunday.

Responding deputies have learned the suspect was stealing items from the 7-Eleven location when the victim offered to pay for the items.

As the victim left the location, the suspect pulled out an ax and began to hit the victim in the head several times.

After the assault, the suspect fled the location heading northbound on Hayworth Avenue and out of view of surveillance cameras.

The victim was transported to a hospital and treated for his injuries.

“This suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. If you believe you have seen the suspect, Do not make contact. Please call 9-1-1 or West Hollywood Station,” police wrote.
