(Scroll down for video) Police in Florida, launched a massive manhunt after a girl was kidnapped by her step grandfather.

Nearly 100 law enforcement officers went to search for the missing girl. Officials from the sheriff’s office, Apopka Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

The girl’s grandmother said that her husband, 50-year-old Darrell Mills, woke up at about 1:40 a.m., on Sunday, and told her that he was going to get food, according to the arrest report.

The woman said that her husband was drunk and he was upset over the death of his daughter, whose funeral was earlier in the day.

When Mills’ wife went to check on him, she realized that her 11-year-old granddaughter’s room was locked. She pried the door open and found her husband raping the girl.

Mills quickly dragged the screaming girl out of the house, forced her into a car and drove to a wooded area, where he raped her.

Three hours after the Amber Alert was issued, a citizen flagged police down to report that he spotted the girl with Mills.

Mills was arrested and the child was returned home safely. The girl reportedly told police that Mills walked into her room and held a knife to her. He warned her not to make noise or he would harm her.

According to the Department of Corrections, Mills has been incarcerated at least eight times since 1989.

His most recent crime was grand theft of a motor vehicle. In that case, he was sentenced to five years in prison. He was released from prison in 2014.

Mills was charged with kidnapping a child under the age of 13, false imprisonment, sexual battery with a deadly weapon and sexual battery on a child under 12.

He is being held without bail.
