A refugee who wanted to satisfy his sexual urges, told a court that his life was ruined after he raped and killed the daughter of an EU official.

Hussein Khavari from Germany, is on trial for raping and killing Maria Ladenburger, 19, whose father is a senior legal adviser to the European Commission in Brussels.

Khavari, 22, told the court: “I saw how pretty she was so I wanted to have sex with her.”

Khavari admitted that he spotted the victim riding her bike at about 3:00 a.m., and decided to have sex with her.

He grabbed the handlebars of the bicycle, and forced her to stop. He then choked her and pulled her to a nearby river, where he drowned and raped her.

Khavari told the court that he smoked hashish the night he ambushed the victim.

He apologized to the family, and said that the incident had destroyed his life. “I live with the agony of what I did and this destroys my life.”

After his arrest, police learned that Khavari, who is originally from Afghanistan, he had been in Greece, before arriving in Germany.

In Greece, he had been arrested and sentenced to 10 years for attempted murder in Corfu in 2013, after he pushed a woman off a cliff.

It remains unclear why Greece freed him from prison so quickly. In 2015, just two years after he was jailed, Khavari sought refuge in Germany.

Not knowing about his crime, German authorities allowed Khavari into the country as a registered asylum seeker.

Ironically, in her spare time, the victim worked in the ancient university city of Freiburg, helping out migrants in various shelters and homes.

The suspect is facing many years in prison if convicted of the crimes.
