(Scroll down for video) A cruel man killed cats because they defecated on his lawn, according to police in Pennsylvania.

Pittsburgh police said that they have arrested 44-year-old Daniel T. Smith, after being accused of using poisonous mothballs to sicken and kill cats.

In court, Smith pleaded guilty to six counts of animal cruelty.

Smith faces up to 5 years in prison.

According to the police investigation, Cindy Matera and Christina Zilliott fed about 11 cats in their neighborhood.

One day, the two women saw Smith dumping two dead cats in a garbage bin.

They then saw a third cat that was ill and vomiting.

The women called police, who found poisonous mothballs on Smith’s property.

During questioning, Smith admitted to police to placing the mothballs in his yard in order to kill the cats.

Smith claimed that the cats were a nuisance because he was tired of finding feces on his yard.

He also claimed that since nobody owned the cats, they had no rights.

Matera and Zilliott told police that Smith admitted to killing six or eight cats, and warned them that he will kill them all.
