(Scroll down for video) A baby is lucky to be alive after a shopper noticed the child being left alone in a hot car, according to police in Kentucky.

On Wednesday, at approximately 2:15 p.m., officers with the Florence Police Department responded to the Florence Mall for a report of an infant locked inside a vehicle.

Shortly after police arrived, the child’s mother returned to the vehicle and was questioned by officers.

The outside temperature at that time was noted as 83 degrees while the internal temperature of the vehicle was measured at 105 degrees.

The baby did not need any medical assistance, but had red cheeks and was sweating.

Further investigation indicated that the child’s mother, 29-year-old Christina Krups, had left the black BMW unattended for a period of 10 to 15 minutes.

Witnesses at the scene told police that they saw Krups looking into the back of her 2015 BMW SUV before going into the mall.

They then checked the back of the vehicle and noticed the sleeping baby.

Krups was more concerned about people trying to break into her vehicle than the well-being of her baby.

She was arrested at the scene on a preliminary charge of wanton endangerment in the first degree.

The 1-year-old child was released to the custody of the father.
