A mother of three children may never be able to walk again after falling while trying to rescue a kitten.

The Australian mother became paralyzed after climbing a tree to save the newborn kitten. She fell on the root of the tree and was unable to get up.

30-year-old Rachel Maree of Perth, was rushed to a hospital for treatment. The fall dislocated a vertebrae and crushed her spinal cord.

Titanium rods and screws were used in her back and spine.

Maree is recovering in the hospital after the terrible accident. Sadly, she was told that she may never be able to use her legs again.

In a Facebook post from the hospital, Maree wrote: “I’m pretty drugged up and in extreme pain. I have a long recovery ahead and plenty of rehab. Hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.”

Despite the fact that her life will never be the same, the mother is trying to stay positive and appreciate what she could do.

“I still have movement in the upper part of my body, I can still hug my children,” Maree said.
