Government crisis management official tried to rape woman in park in middle of the night

A government official held down a woman for several hours and tried to rape her in a park, according to police in Japan.

Saga police said that they have arrested 56-year-old Kazuhiro Hiwatashi, after being accused of dragging the woman to a park, where he held her for 2 hours against her will.

Hiwatashi has been charged with one count of attempted rape.

In court, Hiwatashi denied the allegations.

According to the police investigation, Hiwatashi was the crisis management officer at the Saga Regional Meteorological Observatory.

On Friday, at around 11:30 p.m., Hiwatashi saw the woman walking alone on the street.

Hiwatashi approached the woman, and offered to walk her home.

He then dragged her into a park, and held her down for two hours.

The woman managed to fight off the attempted rape and escaped from the scene.

The woman did not suffer any injuries.
