(Scroll down for video) A family is devastated over the death of a 34-year-old woman.
JoAnne Miller, a mother of two, was 22 weeks pregnant when she was shot dead by her husband, who is a police officer.
The Pennsylvania state trooper claimed that he fatally shot his pregnant wife on Friday afternoon, while he was cleaning his gun. Joseph Paul Miller was cleaning his .45-caliber pistol at his home in East Norriton, while his wife and kids were home.
He told police that he did not realize the gun was loaded when it discharged, shooting his wife in the head while she was going through clothes that she wanted to donate.
The gun was no more than 6 inches away from the woman’s head.
The pregnant 34 year old was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Doctors attempted to save the baby by performing a Cesarean section. Sadly, the baby did not survive. The couple’s two children were unharmed and placed in the care of family members.
Joseph Miller has been on the force for 7 years. Montgomery County detectives and local police are investigating the shooting.
Update: Miller pleaded guilty on Thursday, to two counts of involuntary manslaughter.
He faces up to 10 years in prison.
