(Scroll down for video) A mother was banned from having contact with her children after leaving them home alone while she traveled overseas.

30-year-old Erin Lee Macke of Iowa, left her children home alone while she was away for an 11-day vacation in Germany.

The day after she left, her ex-husband Matthew Macke, who is the father of her two younger children, called police and asked them to do a welfare check at the home.

Officers learned that the children were home alone as the mother left her 12-year-old twins to care for themselves and for their 6 and 7-year-old siblings.

Police contacted the mother who returned home 7 days later.

She was then arrested.

Johnston Police Lt. Tyler Tompkins said that the mother claimed she left her children home only after “all of her babysitter options fell through.”

Macke was charged with four counts of child endangerment and one count of transfer of pistol or revolver to a person under 21.

Her bail was set at $9,000. The judge ordered her to have no contact with her children who were placed in the custody of family members.
