A community came together to raise bail money for a mother who shot three rapists.
The mother of South Africa, was arrested after she killed a man and wounded two others while they were raping her daughter.
Her community in Johannesburg, believes that the mother acted in self-defense.
They managed to put together bail to free the mother and they are now demanding that the charges against her be dropped.
The woman was charged with murder and attempted murder while the two men who survived the gunshot wounds were charged with rape.
The National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa (NPA) said that for now, they are standing by the decision to charge the mother.
However, they said that this could change pending the outcome of their investigation.
Luxolo Tyali with the National Prosecuting Authority said that when the investigation is complete, the evidence will be transferred to a senior prosecutor for a final decision.
According to the police report, the woman, who has not been named, said that she heard her 27-year-old daughter screaming for help.
The cries were coming from an abandoned home. As she went inside, the mother said she saw the men raping her daughter.
She claims that the suspects tried to overpower her, but she fought back and shot them, killing one and wounding two others.
The 27-year-old daughter said that she was traumatized by the incident, but she is grateful to be alive.
“My body is still suffering, but most of all I thank you, Mom, for that sacrifice you made to save my life,” the rape survivor said.
The mother hopes that with psychological help, her daughter will be able to get better.
The rape victim has a long road ahead of her as she will be the main witness in her mother’s defense case as well as in cases against the two rapists.
While her legal team prepares to argue self-defense, the mother is worrying about the impact her case and possible jail time will have on her already traumatized daughter.
