Security guard burns 6 children alive at nursery after being fired for taking long medical leave

People in Brazil, are mourning the deaths of multiple children who were burned alive in their nursery by a madman.

Police launched an investigation after 50-year-old Damiao Soares dos Santos, poured gasoline at the Innocent Children People Municipal Education Centre, which is located in Janauba.

He then set the facility on fire.

The incident unfolded on Thursday, while several teachers and 80 children were in the facility.

Six small children and a teacher died after being burned alive.

The children were four years old.

About 50 people were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Investigators determined that Santos had mental health issues.

Last month, he took a leave of absence to be treated for an illness.

On Thursday morning, Santos came back to the nursery, but he was notified that his employment had been terminated.

Santos left and came back with the gasoline to take revenge.

Santos suffered burns on over 90% of his body.

He died at a hospital.

The nursery burned down to the ground.

The mayor of Janauba, Carlos Isaildon Mendes, declared a 7-day mourning period.
