(Scroll down for video) A Missouri grandfather is behind bars for stabbing his grandson and causing him severe injuries.

67-year-old Jose Ortega of Raytown, was charged with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action.

Ortega told police that he “snapped” when the boy was disrespectful.

The 12-year-old boy had a donut while he was preparing for school. Ortega asked the boy to hand over the donut, but he refused.

The grandfather allegedly grabbed the boy by the neck, began choking him and threw him to the ground, according to the police report.

Ortega then stabbed the child numerous times in the arm with a 10-inch butcher knife.

The bleeding child fled from his house and ran to get help at a neighbor’s house.

Neighbor Courtney Payne said that she was awakened by the child knocking on the door shortly after 7:00 a.m. She called for help as the boy was bleeding heavily.

Payne accompanied the boy to the ambulance and at the hospital until his father arrived. She said that the boy was scared, but he is recovering.
