(Scroll down for video) A man in Canada, was charged with attempted murder for stabbing a mother and her son at a playground.

Witnesses called police after seeing the mother and her young son bleeding heavily.

People who live near Bearberry Crescent, said that they first heard screams coming from a playground at around 7:00 p.m.

They witnessed a mother holding her 6-year-old son, who was bleeding from the back.

A witness said that although the mother was badly injured and bleeding profusely, she was only worried about her son’s condition.

It was only after her son was handed over to the care of EMT workers that the mother began addressing her injuries.

The 6-year-old boy was taken to Alberta Children’s Hospital after he suffered numerous stab wounds to his back.

The boy’s mother was taken to Foothills Medical Centre by EMS with serious stab wounds to her chest and upper body.

Witnesses were able to provide police with enough evidence to locate and arrest the suspect, 20-year-old John Garang Luka Yag. He was charged with two counts of attempted murder.

So far, police believe said that the suspect chose the victims at random. However, they said Yag had visited someone in the area before the attack.

They are still investigating the crime.
