A judge was surprised to hear that a woman who won a lottery tried to steal lipstick and blame her son, according to court documents in Massachusetts.

Salem police said that they have arrested 40-year-old Yokatia Rodriguez after being accused of attempting to walk out of a Kohl’s department store without paying for $80 worth of lipstick.

Salem District Court Judge Robert Stephen found Rodriguez guilty of attempted shoplifting.

Stephen sentenced the woman to 30 days in the Rockingham County Jail, and a $2,000 fine.

Stephen vacated the jail sentence and half the fine if Rodriguez stays out of trouble for a year.

According to the police investigation, Rodriguez bought a $2,000,000 50X Cashword lottery ticket at the Qwik Mart located on Main Street in Haverhill.

She won $1 million from the ticket.

About a month later, Rodriguez went shopping at the Kohl’s department store on Cluff Crossing Road.

She bought $520 worth of items.

At the checkout, Rodriguez left 5 lipsticks worth about $80 in the shopping cart.

Loss prevention officer Michael Frawley watched the woman and her 14-year-old son on the store’s security surveillance and became suspicious.

Frawley confronted Rodriguez, but she denied the allegations, blaming her son, according to Judge Stephen.

The judge blasted Rodriguez for sending the wrong message to her son.

Rodriguez vowed to appeal the conviction, saying that she had no intention to steal and she forgot about the lipstick because it was a hectic shopping season.
