A man in Japan was arrested for choking his wife after she was not burned alive in his murder-suicide attempt.

Police in Tokyo said they have arrested 28-year-old Minori Seki for attempting to kill his 27-year-old wife by setting their apartment on fire and choking her.

According to police, the husband used a lighter to set a towel on fire in the bathroom of his apartment, around 9:00 a.m., on Friday, while his wife was sleeping.

The fire spread and she awoke by the smoke.

Police said that when Seki saw that his wife was alive, he placed his hand around her neck and choked her.

After she lost consciousness, he went out to the balcony. Seki then called the police and said that he had killed his wife.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and extinguished the flames. They found Seki’s wife alive.

She was taken to the hospital with an injury to the neck, and she is said to be in stable condition.

According to police, Seki admitted to the charge. He said that he was fed up with life and that he wanted to kill his wife. He hoped to die in the fire as well, police said.
