(Scroll down for video) Parents in Texas, was very worried when their son went missing without a trace.

40-year-old Jason Courtney was on his way to his father’s house when he walked in a grassy area.

He did not notice an open manhole that was obscured by tall grass.

Courtney suddenly fell into the 15-foot-deep manhole and was trapped in water. His cellphone washed away in the water and he suffered a broken ankle.

Courtney screamed for help, but nobody heard him until 6 days later when a construction worker nearby finally passed by.

It took firefighters about an hour to rescue him using a tripod, ladder and a harness. Courtney was taken to a Houston hospital, where he underwent surgery on his ankle.

Courtney said he was thankful for the people who rescued him.
He now wants ladders to be put into manholes so people can climb out in case of a freak accident like this.

Authorities believe that the recent hurricane might have caused the cover to come off the manhole.
