(Scroll down for video) Police have launched an investigation after a former police officer removed his ankle monitor and escaped.

Tommie Griffin, 52, of Ohio, was set to go on trial in less than a week, but he went missing with two guns.

Police searched for him, and after a few days, they located him inside a home in Cleveland.

His former colleagues at the police department tried to coax him out of the property. Schools were on lock-down as police worked for six hours to get Griffin to surrender.

However, things did not end as police hoped for.

Griffin committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest with an assault rifle.

Griffin was arrested earlier this year on charges of rape, felonious assault, and kidnapping for the domestic violence attack on his 42-year-old girlfriend at her home.

According to court records, Griffin went to his girlfriend’s home and found her in bed with another man.

He left but returned the next day. Griffin is accused of holding the victim against her will. He pistol-whipped and raped her.

Griffin was released on bail and was placed under house arrest.

He was also suspended without pay after his arrest and he later resigned from the department.

Authorities reportedly seized more than 60 guns including five assault rifles and an Israeli Uzi submachine gun from his home after his initial arrest.
