(Scroll down for video) The family members of 19-year-old Jeremey Lake claim that a white police officer shot and killed their loved one only because he was black and dating his daughter.

57-year-old Shannon Kepler of Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been convicted of first-degree manslaughter after being accused of killing Lake because he was dating his daughter.

Kepler claimed that he shot Lake in self-defense.

Kepler faces up to 15 years in prison.

According to the police investigation, Kepler was a police officer with the Tulsa Police Department.

Kepler did not like the fact that his daughter, 18-year-old Lisa, was bringing men into their home.

When she refused to stop bringing men into the home, Kepler kicked her out.

Kepler then learned that Lisa moved in with her black boyfriend.

Kepler drove to Lake’s home and waited in his car.

When he saw Lake walking outside with his daughter, Kepler got out of the car and approached the victim.

Lake reached out to shake Kepler’s hand and to introduce himself.

That is when Kepler pulled out his service weapon and shot Lake multiple times.

Lake died of his injuries.

Kepler told police that he shot Lake in self-defense because he saw the victim reaching for his gun.

No weapons were found at the scene.

Lake’s family claimed that Kepler shot the teen only because he was black.

Kepler denied that as well.
