12-year-old boy wakes up as he was being raped by manBy Mason White 5:21 AM November 19, 2017
A man faces a long prison term after he was found guilty of raping a boy while he was sleeping.
41-year-old Anthony Demarcus Martin of Tennessee was convicted of raping the 12-year-old boy.
Martin, who is a registered sex offender, is now facing between 25 and 40 years in prison when he is sentenced next month.
District Attorney Charme Allen said in a press release that the 12-year-old boy went to Martin’s home to play video games.
As some point, the boy fell asleep on the couch at Martin’s home. The victim woke up to Martin raping him, according to the press release.
Martin has a long criminal record that includes being convicted of statutory rape by an authority figure in March 2014, in a case involving a different child.
He was also convicted of aggravated assault in April 2012 when he hit a 16-year-old boy and kicked him until the child lost consciousness. That incident unfolded at a movie theater inside the Knoxville Center Mall.
The teenager was treated for a skull fracture, contusions, and bleeding in the brain.
“This sex offender will not be able to harm another child because of this young man who had the courage to come forward and confront his accuser,” Allen said.
The state will request the maximum penalty, 40 years, due to the nature of the offense and other charges in Martin’s record, he added.
