A woman was gang-raped after posting an ad on Craigslist, where she was looking for companionship, according to police in North Carolina.

Sheriff Ennis W. Wright of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies have arrested three suspects for rape after receiving information from the Fayetteville Police Department.

Sheriff’s Office Human Trafficking Detectives were notified of a rape that occurred in the county at 2272 Carbine Street by Fayetteville Police.

Sheriff’s Office Detectives contacted the victim and inquired about a posting of a sexual assault that was on her Facebook page.

The victim recounted the event that took place earlier this month, explaining to the detectives she had posted an ad for companionship online.

She was contacted by one of three men asking for a date.

When she arrived at the home on Carbine Street for the date, she was greeted by 21-year-old James Haywood.

Haywood escorted her through the home to a rear bedroom, where 18-year-old Jason Hammonds and 17-year-old Branden McKenzie were waiting.

The suspects displayed handguns and demanded the victim’s money.

After emptying her pockets, the victim was told to remove all of her clothes.

The three suspects then made the victim perform sexual acts.

Approximately a week after the violent sexual assault and robbery, she was not sure where else to turn so she went to social media and told her story on Facebook Live.

Detectives were able to corroborate the victim’s account and arrested the three suspects.

Haywood, Hammonds, and McKenzie were charged with First-Degree Forcible Rape, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, First Degree Kidnapping, and Felony Conspiracy.

All three suspects were booked into the Cumberland County Detention Center.

Haywood is being held on a $1.5 million secured bond while bond for Hammonds and McKenzie was set at $2 million secured bond each.

Detectives have concerns that this is not an isolated incident and believe there may be other victims who have not reported being robbed and assaulted by these three suspects.

The Sheriff’s Office is requesting anyone with information on other incidents to please call (910) 323-1500.
