People in Africa are mourning the deaths of students who were killed at a school in Tanzania.
Kagera Police Commander (RPC) Augustino Ollomi said that a grenade exploded as students were heading to their classroom at 8:40 a.m.
3 students died on the spot, while 2 others were taken to the Rulenge Hospital, where they died while being treated, Ollomi said.
At least 22 children and a teacher were injured. 4 students sustained serious injuries and had undergone surgeries while others were treated at the scene.
According to Ollomi, a first-grade student found a grenade, placed it in a backpack and brought it to school.
The student thought it was a toy.
The child found the grenade in the Kagera Region, which is near the Burundi border.
When the child removed the grenade from the backpack, it exploded.
The victims were between seven and 9 years old.
