A father used a piece of wood from a crib to beat his teenage son to death because he got failing grades at school, according to police in Louisiana.
Jefferson Parish police said that they have arrested 45-year-old Furnell Daniel Sr. after being accused of beating 14-year-old Jalen because he got an F in social studies class.
Daniel was convicted of manslaughter at the 24th Judicial District Court in Gretna.
He faces up to 40 years in prison.
The jury rejected the charge of second-degree murder.
According to the police investigation, when Jalen came home one day from school with an F grade in his social studies class, Daniel became extremely angry.
Daniel, who lived with his family in a home on Clifford Court, grabbed a piece of wood form crib and began beating his son who resisted the attack.
Daniel ended up hitting his son all over his body.
Jalen went to bed and was not feeling well.
He vomited throughout the night.
Daniel took his son to the Ochsner Medical Center the following day around noon.
By then, Jalen was in cardiac arrest and never woke up.
Jalen suffered skull fractures, a broken wrist, a fractured kneecap and bruising all over his body.
