A sexual predator targeted lonely women while they were outside late at night, according to police in the United Kingdom.
Delando Smith, 31, of Shenley Road in Peckham, appeared at Croydon Crown Court after being found guilty of three counts of rape, one count of sexual assault by penetration and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.
Smith, who was a football player, was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
According to the police investigation, Smith carried out his first attack at around 3:30 a.m.
A 20-year-old woman was in Southwark on her way back from a night out in Peckham.
A car pulled up beside her as she waited at a bus stop.
The driver, who was later identified as Smith, engaged her in conversation and said he would give her a lift.
She got into the car and Smith told her to perform a sex act.
He then took her to his home and raped her.
She reported the attack to police.
The suspect’s car was identified as a white Nissan Qashqai, and vehicle’s registration number led police to Smith.
He was arrested on suspicion of rape and released on bail.
While out on bail, he committed a second attack.
Smith was on Clapham High Street, where the 21-year-old victim got into his vehicle thinking he was a taxi.
He took her to a car park and sexually assaulted her.
He was arrested, and during the police interview, he said that the sex was consensual.
Smith’s phone was seized and analyzed, and videos showing the attacks on this victim were found.
Detective Constable Ellen Jones of the Met’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command said: “Smith is a sexual predator who targeted young, vulnerable, lonely women, attacked them and recorded the offenses for his own gratification.”
