A woman killed a small child because he refused to eat his meal, according to police in Illinois.
The DeKalb Department said that on Friday, at approximately 7:30 p.m., it was notified by the Kishwaukee Community Hospital staff that a two-year-old child had sustained a severe brain injury under suspicious circumstances and that the boy had been transferred to Lurie Hospital in Chicago.
The DeKalb Police immediately initiated an investigation in cooperation with the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office into the cause of the injury to the two-year-old boy.
21-year-old Alexandra Hoyle, the girlfriend of the child’s biological father, had slammed the child’s head onto the hardwood floor at a residence in the 800 block of Ridge Drive in DeKalb, causing the severe injuries.
Hoyle was taken into custody and charged with aggravated battery to a child.
She was booked into the DeKalb County Jail and her bond was set at $500,000.
When the two-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries, Hoyle charges were upgraded to two counts of first-degree Murder.
Hoyle’s bond was increased to $5,000,000.
DeKalb Police Chief Gene Lowery stated: “The tragic loss of a two-year-old child at the hands of this offender is unthinkable. On behalf of the DeKalb Police Department, we offer our sincere condolences, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and those who survive him.”
During questioning by police, Hoyle claimed that the child was knocked to the ground by a wild dog.
However, she later admitted to slamming the child’s head into the floor because he refused to eat.
As a result, the child suffered a stroke, bleeding in the brain, and bleeding in both of the retinas of his eyes.
The child’s father was not home at the time of the incident.
If convicted, Hoyle faces up to life in prison.
