A dog was hailed a hero for protecting its owner and for helping police nab a suspect.

Police in Florida released a video, showing a dog attacking a man who was fleeing from them.

Volusia County police tried to pull over a car that had stolen license plates.

However, instead of stopping for officers, the suspects Deonte Broady, 25, and Corey Williams, 21, ditched the car and fled on foot.

A helicopter followed the two men as they were running into people’s backyards. They soon went into the yard that belonged to Mario Figueroa.

Figueroa said that he was sitting in his backyard when he saw his 2-year-old rescue dog named Georgio suddenly jumping into action and tackling one of the suspects.

The suspect demanded that Figueroa get the dog from him. The dog’s action hindered the man and he was soon caught by police.

Police took to Facebook where they posted the video and wrote: “Even the pets of Volusia County have our backs. Watch as this very good boy defends his yard against intruders.

“The fleeing suspects in this video were driving a Camaro with a stolen tag last night. They also were carrying several baggies of heroin, cocaine, and about $2,000 in cash between them. They’re in the Volusia County Branch Jail this afternoon.”

Figueroa is also very proud of his dog for protecting him.

The suspects are facing several charges, including possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell/deliver, trafficking in heroin, and resisting without violence.
