A husband flew into a jealous fit of rage every time his wife’s selfies received “likes” on Facebook, according to police in Paraguay.
Nemby police said that they have arrested 32-year-old Pedro Heriberto Galeano after being accused of locking up his wife in their home and beating her over a period of several months.
Galeano was charged with attempted femicide, deprivation of liberty, and coercion.
If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison.
According to the police investigation, Galeano got married to 21-year-old Adolfina Camelli Ortigoza.
Soon after their marriage, Galeano began monitoring his wife’s Facebook account.
Galeano became jealous after seeing that his wife’s selfies were getting a lot of Facebook “likes.”
He accused her of cheating.
When Ortigoza decided to stop using Facebook, Galeano took over her account and uploaded photos of his wife.
Each time her photo received a Facebook “like,” Ortigoza flew into a jealous rage.
He stuffed a cloth into her mouth and punched and kicked her face.
Her face became severely disfigured.
Ortigoza was also banned from leaving her husband’s home.
Police came to rescue Ortigoza after Galeano’s father reported the abuse.
The suspect’s father said that he decided to call the police because he feared for his daughter-in-law’s life.
