A housemaid was accused of mocking and disrespecting religion after being accused of rubbing a Quran on her backside, according to police in the United Arab Emirates.

Dubai police said that they have arrested the 36-year-old woman, who was not identified, after being accused of rubbing the Quran on her behind and sitting on the book.

She was charged with disrespecting a religious object.

The woman denied that charge, saying that she did not mean to offend the Islamic religion.

The Dubai Criminal Court ruled in favor of the woman and dismissed the charge.

Prosecutors appealed the ruling to the Dubai Court of Appeal but the judges upheld the lower court decision.

According to the police investigation, the suspect worked as a housemaid at a family’s home.

One day, her employer accused the maid of practicing black magic.

The woman denied the allegations and picked up a Quran to swear on the holy book.

The employer was shocked to see the maid rubbing the Quran on her backside and placing it on the ground.

She then sat on the religious book.

The employer called the police and the woman was arrested.
