A man in Florida had to spend his birthday in prison for stealing from a woman while she was celebrating her own birthday.
The woman called the police after discovering that her iPad was missing from her car that was parked outside her home in Port St. Lucie.
The 45-year-old woman told police that she was out shopping, and after she arrived home, she realized that her $680 iPad fell out of her purse.
The woman said that she wanted to go back to her car to retrieve the iPad, but she was interrupted by a surprise birthday party.
When she finally came outside, the iPad was missing.
Police tracked the iPad to a home and confronted the suspect.
Ainsley Gayle Jr. was arrested on the day he turned 21-years-old after the stolen iPad was tracked to his home.
Gayle claimed that he received the iPad as a birthday gift from a man at a Dollar Store earlier in the day.
The victim gave the police the password, which successfully unlocked the device that was in Gayle’s possession.
After his arrest, Gayle admitted to breaking into the woman’s car and stealing the iPad.
He told the officers he had left his house to buy a cigar, and when he was on his way back home, he saw a light on in a car and the tablet inside.
Gayle faces charges of burglary and grand theft.
