A woman was shot by her boyfriend after trying to get into their home in Michigan in middle of the night.

According to Detroit police spokesman Dan Donakowski, the man shot his girlfriend after he mistook her for an intruder at their home.

The incident unfolded at around 1:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of Cadieux near Mack.

According to the police, the 31-year-old woman forgot her keys and tried to return to the house. The front door was locked so she climbed through a bedroom window.

When the 27-year-old boyfriend heard someone breaking into his home through the window, he armed himself with a gun and shot in that direction.

Police said the woman was hit once in the wrist. Thankfully, she survived.

After the shooting, the boyfriend realized his mistake and rushed the woman to a hospital.

Police interviewed the couple, and so far, no charges have been filed.
