A man flew into a rage and killed his roommate who destroyed his birthday cake, according to police in Connecticut.
The New Britain Police Department said on Monday, at around 9:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to 64 North Street on a report of an adult male stabbed.
Upon arrival, officers located a very seriously injured man within the apartment.
The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
41-year-old Carlos Gonzalez-Oliver was immediately identified as the suspect in this crime.
Gonzalez-Oliver was tracked down to a motel on the Berlin Turnpike, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Gonzalez-Oliver was brought back to New Britain and charged with murder.
He was booked into jail and he is being held on $1 million bail.
Gonzalez-Oliver told police that he came home with a birthday cake for one of his 5 roommates.
The victim then began harassing him about the birthday cake and threatened him with an ax.
Gonzalez-Oliver locked himself in a bedroom but the victim banged on the door with the ax.
The victim then allegedly destroyed the birthday cake and threw some of it against the bedroom door.
Gonzalez-Oliver then went out of the bedroom and into the kitchen, where the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the back of the head.
Gonzalez-Oliver claimed he stabbed the victim in self-defense.
Police did not find the ax at the scene.
