A married father was arrested for earning money by selling two women for sex.
41-year-old Juan Cruz Jr. of Florida was arrested after one of the victims managed to go to a police station, where she told officers she was being held against her will.
The 24-year-old woman told police that she and a 29-year-old woman were being forced to live in a storage unit at the 3100 block of 3rd St. W in Bradenton and were being pimped out to men by Cruz.
Cruz advertised the women as prostitutes on Backpage.com. He then took the victims to clients. When they were done, Cruz took the money from them.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cruz on charges of human trafficking.
Cruz did not live with the victims in the storage room. Despite being a convicted child sex offender, he lived at another location with his wife and several children.
The victims told police that Cruz gave them drugs on several occasions before claiming that they owe him money and forced them into prostitution to pay off their debt.
He kept the women locked up in his storage unit for long periods of time, where he provided them with drugs. The unit was locked from the outside and did not have a toilet or shower.
The victims were forced to use cups to urinate.
The women told police that they never ran away from Cruz despite having opportunities to do so because he was armed with guns and he was abusive towards them when they did things he did not like.
Cruz was ordered to register as a sex offender for sex crimes against children. He was jailed twice, once in 1996 and again in 2001.
